A licensed bilingual guide will welcome you on the sand, walk you through essential kayak safety tips, and chart the calmest route across Samara Bay. In less than 30 minutes of easy paddling, you’ll reach the protected refuge of Smuggler’s Island, where iguanas bask on sun-warmed rocks, inquisitive raccoons forage among the tide pools, and seabirds wheel overhead.
Slip into crystal-clear shallows for an up-close snorkel, spotting vibrant reef fish and the occasional graceful turtle. Between adventures, refuel with fresh fruit, water, and juice—plus the option to unwind with a cold domestic beer. As the tide turns, your guide will time your return leg for the smoothest ride back to Playa Sámara. This 2½-hour excursion promises a perfect blend of wildlife encounters, coastal scenery, and Pura Vida relaxation.
Departure is from your hotel in Sámara or Puerto Carrillo.

Transportation will pick you up and bring you to the starting point on the beach. There, you’ll meet for a safety briefing, life jacket fitting, and a brief kayak orientation before heading out.

We accept payment in Costa Rican colones (CRC) or US dollars (USD). You're welcome to pay in either currency – just let us know your preference in advance, if possible.

If our staff determines that weather conditions are unsafe or unsuitable for the tour, you will have the option to reschedule or receive a full refund. Safety comes first.
Cancellation and prepayment policies may vary depending on the tour operator. Our policy is as follows: Cancellations made 48 hours or more before the activity are eligible for a full refund. If you cancel between 36 and 48 hours before the activity, a 50% refund will be issued. Cancellations made less than 36 hours before the activity are non-refundable.
