Discover the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation on our Chora Island Kayak & Snorkel Safari. Launching from the sheltered southern end of Sámara Beach—renowned for its gentle swells—you’ll paddle through calm, crystal-clear waters as the coastline falls away. In about 25 minutes, arrive at Isla Chora, a protected wildlife refuge where inquisitive raccoons, sunning iguanas, and industrious crabs greet you on the shore.

Your bilingual guide will brief you on safety and point out prime snorkeling spots. Slip into the sea to explore thriving reef habitats, encountering colorful pufferfish, rainbow fish, and, with a bit of luck, graceful sea turtles. Back on land, refuel with a basket of tropical fruits, refreshing juices, and water (an optional cold beer can be arranged). A leisurely paddle returns you to Sámara Beach, leaving you with lasting memories of Costa Rica’s coastal wonders.

Departure & Return Location

Departure is from your hotel in Sámara or Puerto Carrillo downtown.

If you are arriving from another location, you’re welcome to meet us at our office. We’re located across the street from Roots Bakery, on Sámara’s main road.

Departure Time

From 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Starting times depend on the sea tide, so please feel free to contact us to find out the exact schedule.

Gather at the calm, low-swell section of Playa Sámara for a gear fitting and safety orientation.

2Cross to Isla Chora

Paddle steadily through tranquil bay waters, enjoying panoramic views of the Nicoya Peninsula as you make your way to the island sanctuary.

3Island Exploration

Step ashore to observe local wildlife—iguanas, raccoons, crabs—and learn about the island’s ecology from your guide.

4Guided Snorkel Session

What currency is accepted for this tour?

We accept payment in Costa Rican colones (CRC) or US dollars (USD). You’re welcome to pay in either currency – just let us know your preference in advance, if possible.

What if Mother Nature has other plans?

We love sharing nature with our guests, and we do our best to provide the best possible experience. However, it’s important to remember that wildlife sightings and water visibility can never be guaranteed, as they depend on natural conditions beyond our control. Thank you for your understanding!

Weather troubles - what are my options?

If our staff determines that weather conditions are unsafe or unsuitable for the tour, you will have the option to reschedule or receive a full refund. Safety comes first.

Cancellation policy?

Cancellation and prepayment policies may vary depending on the tour operator. Our policy is as follows: Cancellations made 48 hours or more before the activity are eligible for a full refund. If you cancel between 36 and 48 hours prior, a 50% refund will be issued. Cancellations made less than 36 hours before the activity are non-refundable and will be charged in full.
