Venture into the lush heart of Guanacaste on our Werner Sauter Reserve Walking Expedition, a 2½-hour journey through one of Costa Rica’s most exclusive private sanctuaries. After a short scenic drive from Playa Sámara or Carrillo Town, your bilingual guide will welcome you at the former cattle farm entrance and share the reserve’s conservation story. Wander beneath towering guanacaste and ceiba trees as you inhale the heady scent of tropical dry forest, then meander into the sun-dappled mango plantation—where you’re invited to hand-pick and savor organic fruit straight from the branch.
Continue along winding trails to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the Nicoya Peninsula and the Gulf of Nicoya, learning about native wildlife—from coati and howler monkeys to brilliantly colored toucans—and the indigenous Chorotega communities who once thrived here. Along the way, your guide will interpret the intricate relationships between local plants, traditional uses, and modern preservation efforts. This immersive walk blends natural beauty, cultural heritage, and hands-on tasting for an unforgettable Samara Trails experience.
Departure is from your hotel in Sámara or Puerto Carrillo.
If you are arriving from another location, you’re welcome to meet us at our office. We’re located across the street from Roots Bakery, on Sámara’s main road.
